eLearning at Virginia Tech
Since its inception in 1999, Virginia Tech's Institute for Distance and Distributed Learning (IDDL) continues its commitment to provide leadership, coordination, management, and support of the university's distance and distributed (eLearning) activities and strengthen the University's role as a recognized leader in eLearning through its holistic approach.
In Fall 2007, Virginia Tech's eLearning enrollments surpassed the 100, 000 mark (including credit and non-credit enrollments) since Summer 1998, when eLearning enrollments were first accounted. During this time, more than 3,500 different courses have been offered to eLearners with over 700 different faculty members engaged in delivering courses at a distance. The university offers 29 graduate degree, certificate, and licensure programs, a program of 55 undergraduate core course offerings, an undergraduate concentration in the Humanities, and five non-credit professional or personal development programs--all offered through Virginia Tech Online.
Significant accomplishments were achieved during the 2006-2007 academic year across all aspects of eLearning, which are captured in the 2006-07 IDDL Annual Report.
Virginia Tech adheres to the Best Practices for Electronically Offered Degree and Certificate Programs as endorsed by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
